MJ Consulting Engineers were appointed to provide structural engineering services for the delivery of the new Starbucks unit within the departure lounge at Belfast International Airport. The opening marks the second new food and beverage outlet delivered as part of a partnership focused on enhancing the passenger experience, aligned with the airport’s wider £100 million redevelopment programme.
Working closely with SSP Group, Belfast International Airport, and the wider design team, MJ Consulting Engineers supported the structural delivery of the unit within a live terminal environment. This involved coordinating structural interfaces with the base build, accommodating existing structural constraints, and developing practical solutions to integrate the new concession fit-out while maintaining airport operations, passenger circulation, and safety requirements throughout the programme.
The completed Starbucks outlet provides a modern, high-throughput coffee experience for passengers in the departure lounge, with structural solutions carefully integrated to support the architectural layout, services coordination, and the operational demands of a busy international terminal.
